Meet your Midwife
Jane Hedges B.MW., R.M., La Leche League Leader, Certified Hypnobirthing Practitioner
& Breastfeeding Counsellor
I have been working with women and their families as a Registered Midwife in Prince George since December 2004. It would be my pleasure to put my extensive experience and midwifery knowledge to work for you to achieve a satisfying pregnancy, labour and postpartum experience.
I am a proud mama to five beautiful children 16, 13, 5 & sweet baby girls born in March 2011and a graduate of the three year baccalaureate program in Midwifery Education at Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand in 2000.
My journey to midwifery began following the birth of my two oldest children. At first I worked with women in the area of breastfeeding with La Leche League Canada followed by work as a Doula. It was soon after becoming a Doula that I realized I wanted to offer women more than labour support, so I embarked on my Midwifery training. My family is incredibly supportive of my calling and it is with their continued support that I am able to provide women with individualized and personal care.
When working with women and their families I aim to integrate my midwifery knowledge, experience and intuition to provide the best care possible. My midwifery philosophy of care is centered upon the viewpoint that women are healthy capable individuals progressing through a natural life cycle. Pregnancy is a state of health and childbirth is a normal physiologic process, and a profound event in a woman's life.
With open heart and mind, I will offer you genuine warmth, gentle hands, and a strong sense of faith in the natural process of birth and the innate strength of your own body. After 14 years of working with women and their families I understand that pregnancy, childbirth and the journey to becoming "mommy" is a unique opportunity for self discovery, connection and transformation.
"We have a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong" Laura Stavoe
